An investigation officer (IO) from the Customs Anti-Smuggling Organisation submitted on Saturday the interim challan of a case pertaining to the alleged smuggling of liquor under cover of diplomatic immunity in a Customs court.

Pakistan Peoples Party MNA Roshan Junejo and his son, Ghias Junejo, were nominated as the accused in the challan submitted by the IO.

The challan states that the nominated accused attempted to clear a container loaded with liquor through the Hyderabad toll plaza by deputing police officials ahead of and behind the truck carrying the container on September 23, claiming that they were supplying food and water to Roshan's village.

It further states that the Hyderabad DIG had completed a report as per the directives of the Sindh IGP, finding police officials to be involved in illegal activity.

According to the challan, constables Shoaib and Irfan Ali have also been listed as accused, along with Naveed Yamin, Rubina Gill, Khurram Dadu, Khurram Hussain Naqvi and clearing agent Muhammad Sohail.

It claims 6,000 bottles of liquor, being smuggled under cover of diplomatic immunity, were confiscated by Customs officials.

Furthermore, the challan alleges the accused were involved in the liquor black market, while the Sindh Police had been used in the smuggling as well. It adds that the MNA had acquired bail.

The court accepted the challan and directed Roshan to cooperate in the investigation.
