NUST included in top 100 Asian varsities
NUST has been included in the top 100 universities of Asia in the latest rankings issued by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS).
The rankings showed that as many 45 Pakistani universities made it on to the list of 634 Asian universities on Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Asia University Rankings for 2021.
National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) has been ranked at 76 in the rankings and is the only Pakistani varsity to make it to the top 100 list. Another 30 made it to the top 600 in Asia.
NUST maintained its upward trajectory in Asia, improving its 83 rankings from last year, jumping up seven spots. NUST has improved 36 positions over the past five years but has also retained its number one position amongst Pakistani universities for the fourth consecutive year. This is the second time in a row that NUST has stood as the only Pakistani university in Top 100 Asian universities.
The new ranking places NUST amongst the top 12% of Asian universities for 2021. NUST also stands amongst the top 100 universities as per academic reputation indicator.
Quaid-i-Azam University came in at 106 in Asia, Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) at 121, COMSATS University Islamabad at 146, University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore at 175, Pakistan Institutes of Engineering and Applied Sciences at 176, and the University of Punjab at 178.
Similarly, University of Peshawar has been positioned at 217, Agha Khan University 231, University of Agriculture Faisalabad 244, University of Karachi 281 and University of Lahore 301.
The top ten positions in the rankings were dominated by varsities from Singapore, China, Hong Kong and South Korea. Several Japanese, Chinese, Taiwanese, Indian and Singaporean universities populated the top 100 list.
While determining university rankings, the indicators taken into consideration by QS include academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty/student ratio, citation per paper, paper(s) per faculty, international research network, international faculty, international students, inbound exchange students and outbound exchange students. The employer reputation indicator is the strongest for NUST in the latest rankings, placing the university at 42 in the region.
