A plea filed by the government against the regularisation of teachers in cantonment schools was dismissed on Tuesday after the Supreme Court deemed that it was filed after the period for appeal had been exhausted.
This was declared on Tuesday by a three-member bench of the Supreme Court (SC), headed by Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed and comprising Justice Ijazul Ahsan.
During the hearing, the court expressed its anger at the federal government for filing their petition so late and causing damage to the national exchequer.
Justice Ahsan said that the government acquired a copy of the relevant high court’s order after the appeal period had exhausted.
At this, Chief Justice Ahmed asked why does the government not take action against its officials who filed the review petition so late.
You have to face the music for deploying black sheep in institutions, he remarked.
CJ Ahmed suggested that there was somebody in the government who remained deliberately ignorant of verdicts and causing damage worth billions to the government.
He added that if the apex court were to probe the matter, all the responsibility will be put on the subsequent official. The court further remarked that the legal affairs of institutions must be handled by officials and not clerks.
