Covid-19 wards to go functional at Pindi hospitals

Managements of public health facilities demand equipment

RAWALPINDI:

Two more people succumbed to novel coronavirus disease (Covid-19) at Holy Family Hospital (HFH) on Sunday. The deceased were identified as Haroon and Resham Jan.

There are currently 106 infected patients receiving treatment in HFH including 11 on the ventilator. Further, some 31 patients are also on oxygen in Rawalpindi Institute of Urology and Kidney Transplant (RIUKT).

Meanwhile, the Rawalpindi administration has decided to make the coronavirus treatment network in all three allied hospitals in Rawalpindi operational again.

The administration has also sent a demand request for additional medical and para-medical staff to the Punjab government after 20 per cent of health professionals in Rawalpindi have contracted the pandemic virus and are currently under treatment.

Further, RIUKT and Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH) would be converted into dedicated healthcare facilities for the treatment of novel coronavirus. Meanwhile, the admission of infected patients would also continue in HFH.

Contrarily, the hospitals' management have declared available facilities in the hospitals including safety kits, staff, and equipment as inadequate and demanded to ensure their procurement at the earliest.

Sources said that if the deficiency issue was not resolved, the coronavirus treatment network may get collapsed with the influx of patients.

Meanwhile, RIUKT Coronavirus Management Centre Medical Superintendent Dr Nausheen Mehboob has resumed her duties wearing a safety kit. Dr Nausheen is suffering from Covid-19.
