CM for appointing regular VCs to eight K-P varsities

Mahmood directs restructuring of Higher Education Department, ETEA

PESHAWAR:

The provincial chief executive has directed to restructure the Higher Education Department and appoint regular vice-chancellors to eight different public universities in the province.

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Chief Minister Mahmood Khan issued these directives as he chaired a meeting of the provincial Higher Education Department on Sunday. He also directed to submit proposals for restructuring the Educational Testing and Evaluation Agency (ETEA).

The chief minister said that several universities have no vice-chancellors for the past few months and directed to fill the vacant posts of VCs within a month. The meeting was informed that tenure of the last regular VCs of these eight universities had expired in June and July, and the pro-vice chancellors have been handling the affairs of the VC offices since then.

These include University of Peshawar, Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan, University of Science and Technology Peshawar, Shuhada-e-Army Public School University of Technology Nowshera, University of Science and Technology Bannu, Kohat University of Science and Technology, University of Swabi, and Bacha Khan University, Charsadda.

Regarding the ETEA, CM Mahmood said that the capacity of department would be enhanced on priority basis and all the required resources would be provided. He also directed for timely completion of development schemes in higher education especially establishment of colleges.

The meeting was informed that over 4, 000 students were admitted in the second shift in nine colleges for 2019-20 session while for the 2020-21 session, 3, 280 students were also admitted in the second shift.
