The Surjani Town police on Wednesday registered a case pertaining to the murder of a man in front of his father the previous day.
Iftikhar Ali was reportedly shot dead in his car by unidentified motorcyclists near Maraqba Hall on Tuesday.
The case was registered against unidentified men under Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code, on behalf of Iftikhar's brother Mukhtiar Ali.
According to Surjani Town SHO Rao Nazim, the power supply was suspended in the area when the incident took place, as a result of which Iftikhar's father was unable to determine the direction from which the shots were fired.
He said that Iftikhar was on his way back home from his embroidery workshop in Godhra with his father when the assailants opened fire on him, without any attempt to rob him.
Nazim said the police had taken two bullet shells and Iftikhar's mobile phone into custody, sending them for forensic analysis. He added that there were no CCTV cameras in the area while no eyewitnesses had yet been found either.
According to sources, Iftikhar lived in Dubai and had come back to Karachi during the lockdown.
