Covid claims nine more lives in Punjab

Health department has tested over 1.7 million people so far

Punjab Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department (P&SHD) has confirmed that nine people succumbed to coronavirus infection in the province on Sunday.

As many as 684 new cases were also reported across Punjab during the last 24 hours, a spokesperson for the Punjab Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department said.

Reportedly, the total number of coronavirus cases in the province escalated to 109,993 whereas the total deaths in the province stood at 2,471 altogether.

P&SHD data statistical breakdown reveals that the highest number of covid-19 cases (279) were recorded in the provincial capital followed by 130 in Rawalpindi and 29 in Layyah.

Other districts confirming virus infection were Multan 28, Faisalabad 25, Bahawalpur 17, Khanewal 13, Vehari 12, Sargodha 12, Sahiwal 11, Toba Tek Singh 9, Gujrat 8, Mianwali 7, Jehlum 6, Sialkot 6, Jhang 5, Khushab 5, Sheikhupura 3, Lodharan 3, Bahawalnagar 3, Rahim Yar Khan 2, Muzaffargarh 2, Rajanpur 2 Okara 2, Chiniot 2, and one each in Attock, Chakwal and Bhakkar. “The Punjab health department has conducted 1,751,066 covid-19 tests up to the present,” the P&SHD spokesperson detailed, adding that at least 97,756 confirmed virus patients have recovered in Punjab.

He reiterated the need to observe the standard operating procedures (SOPs) to alleviate infection rate. “Cover your face with masks and observe hygiene strictly to prevent virus infliction,” he stressed.

Citizens were urged to contact helpline if they experience coronavirus symptoms for their own safety.
