PDMA steps in as smog intensifies

A total of Rs15 million worth of fines has been imposed on smoke-emitting vehicles

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has claimed that effective multiple steps were being taken to tackle the smog situation.

PDMA Director Nisar Sani said on Tuesday that a state-of-the-art monitoring cell had been set up which was closely monitoring the smog situation. “PDMA is taking steps in coordination with the departments concerned. The latest technology is being used to monitor anti-smog activities in the province.”

He further said transport sector was a major factor behind smog as it was contributing 42% of the total pollution. “To control transport related emissions, stringent steps are being taken by the PDMA along with allied departments. A total of Rs15 million worth of fines has been imposed on smoke-emitting vehicles in the provincial capital in the ongoing crackdown.”
