ISLAMABAD:

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday dismissed petitions challenging the appointment of National Database and Regulatory Authority (Nadra) Chairman Usman Mobin and termed his appointment lawful.

Justice Aamir Farooq announced the decision, which was reserved on August 13 after the completion of arguments by the respondents.

The counsel for the petitioners had adopted the stance that the prescribed eligibility criteria for the post of Nadra chairman was changed during the appointment of Mobin.

The plea stated that Mobin was placed on the fifth position on the merit list but was given undue benefit by decreasing the marks for a PhD degree and increasing the marks for an MS degree. Mobin holds a masters degree.

The federation had said that Mobin was appointed keeping in view the experience and education criteria set for the post in accordance with the law.

Mobin was first appointed in 2015 during the government of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and in 2018 his tenure was extended for another three years.
