The Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) has formed an inquiry committee to look into the sale of milk at inflated prices in Karachi.
The team has summoned representative organisations of dairy farmers on November 16, seeking details about milk being sold for more than the fixed rates.
The official price of fresh milk in the city had been set at Rs94 per litre but it is being sold for up to Rs130 per litre, with little action being taken in this regard by the city administration.
Consumer rights activists stated that instead of imposing fines on profiteers, concrete steps should be taken against them.
Meanwhile, Dairy and Cattle Farms Association president Shakir Omar Gujjar said milk prices should be set in line with production costs and inflation, adding that authorities must set realistic prices that do not negatively impact those associated with the business.
