Tribune Fact Check: Ayaz Sadiq seeks asylum in France?

The claim is false as the Twitter handle does not belong to Pakistan's embassy in France

A twitter handle purportedly belonging to the Consulate General of Pakistan in France had posted that it received a Police Clearance Certificate application from French Ministry of Immigration on the asylum of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz parliamentarian Ayaz Sadiq.

The Express Tribune found the claim to be false as the Pakistani embassy in France only has one official handle on Twitter.

Last month,Sadiq drew heavy criticism for claiming that Islamabad was under pressure to return Indian pilot Abhinandan Varthaman to New Delhi after he was captured when his plane was shot down in Pakistani airspace in 2019.

Last week, Pakistan’s embassy in the country that has been fraught by unrest after blasphemous caricatures were published against Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), had denied that Pakistani nationals were deported after Prime Minister Imran Khan slammed French President Emmanuel Macron's remarks against Islam.

"The Embassy of Pakistan in Paris, France has only one Twitter account @PakInFrance," it said, urging citizens to be wary of other accounts that post false information.

"Any other account claiming to represent the Embassy anywhere in France is fake & misleading & may be reported to @Twitter @FakeNews_Buster @ForeignOfficePk @MoIB_Official," it added.

A twitter handle @PakConsulateFr, claimed that 118 Pakistani nationals were deported after PM Imran's comments.

"183 visitor visas provided to our citizens[have] been found to be rejected by French authorities following the criticism by PM Imran Khan. 118 citizen[s]with proper documents were deported forcefully," the account claimed.

"We're currently in touch with French authority (sic) to give our citizens temporary stay," it added.
