The investigation unit of the Malir City police raided on Saturday the office of the Anti-Car Lifting Cell (ACLC) in Landhi and arrested a head constable on charges of abducting two sisters.

According to Malir City investigation in-charge Zahir Shah, policemen had abducted sisters Sajida and Hamida in Ghanchi Market on October 21 and continued to roam different areas of Karachi in a mobile van while holding the sisters captive.

According to Shah, the policemen had demanded Rs1 million in ransom for releasing the sisters but eventually freed them in exchange for Rs15,000 in cash, a pair of gold earrings and a gold chain.

He said a case for the abduction was registered under Sections 342 and 395 of the Pakistan Penal Code, pertaining to wrongful confinement and robbery, on behalf of Sajida and Hamida's brother, Shahnawaz.

The police launched an investigation following the registration of the FIR and traced the police van said to be used in the incident with the help of the CCTV footage, he added. The van has been made part of the case property, as per Shah.

Later, he said, the police arrested head constable Liaquat, who had been identified by Sajida and Hamida, from the ACLC's office in Landhi.

According to Shah, four more ACLC officials, including Landhi ACLC sub-inspector Irfan Kazmi, and two others were involved in the incident.

"All of them are on the run and we are trying to track them down after Liaquat's arrest," he added.

He told The Express Tribune that the ACLC DSP and other officials of the department had visited the Malir City Police Station to try to have Liaquat released. "They tried to put pressure on the investigation officer but he didn't give in and notified senior officials about it," claimed Shah.
