First aid: Emergency response team volunteers

KARACHI: The Sindh branch of Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) collaborated with International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) and held a three-day induction course for volunteers of an emergency response team (ERT). The course was held from August 5 to August 7 at Beach Luxury Hotel. The basic objective of induction course is to give an introduction of Red Crescent and Red Cross (RCRC) movement. ICRC’s cooperation delegate, Niyomwungeri Martin, explained the mandate and activities to the volunteers. Martin said that ERT volunteers should prepare for immediate response in conflict or disaster situations. The instructor, Arif Moeen, also shared his expertise. The volunteers were taught basic first aid, casualty handling, fire fighting, bomb reconnaissance and the use of the ERT kit.
