Eyelash extensions are the latest to have gained popularity in the beauty world. It is an easy albeit expensive way to enhance your natural eyelashes without the help of a mascara or strip false lashes. The individually applied lashes can look surprisingly natural. With the exception of the expense and the appointment time, it means waking up each morning looking and feeling fabulous.
What are Eyelash extensions?
Lash extensions are applied on the lash line with surgical glue. The lashes applied are made of synthetic or natural hair fibres that are glued to the base of each eyelash. They can be applied as a set or individually. Individual eyelashes are much more time-consuming.
Eyelash extensions require serious maintenance. If you’re careful in how you take care of your eyelash extensions and get refills every two to three weeks, your eyelash extensions can hold up pretty well and last long. But straying from the guidelines can cause a mess, with the lashes coming off sooner than they would have otherwise.
Subsequent appointments after your initial application is mandatory for maintenance. How often you need a “fill” depends on your own natural eyelash growth cycle and on how well you take care of your lashes. Taking care of your lash extensions is a big deal.

Research your lash professional
Make sure you go to someone who is professionally certified and trained. Don’t be embarrassed to ask for credentials and see their previous work. It will help you get a better understanding of their established method of application and if their work resonates with the look you’re aiming for.
Choose your look carefully
Decide what look you want to go for. Just the way you choose your hairstyle depending on various factors such as trends, lifestyle, level of maintenance. Browse through the different style of eyelash extensions and discuss with your trusted eyelash technician about the look you want to go for.
It can be risky
The most common complaints about lash extensions are allergic reactions to the glue, eye infections from contact with unsanitary tools, or an infected follicle from two lashes being glued together, and/or from the glue itself clogging a hair follicle.
Understand the process
Depending on the look and the type of eyelash extensions you choose (they can be applied individually or in sets) can be time consuming. The process is tiring and can easily take two hours or so. To prepare the eye area for extensions, your lash technician should be taping your lower lashes down to your skin, and placing hydrating eye pads on top. This is done to prevent the glue from getting on the lower part of your eye as lashes are applied.
