Pakistani actors Yasir Hussain and Amna Ilyas recently took their disappointments to social media after a report by Bloomberg declared the port city's transportation the worst in the world.
Karachi ranks as having the worst public transport system globally, according to a 2019 study by car-parts company, Mister Auto, which looked at 100 major cities, according to the outlet.
Taking a dig at the relevant authorities, Hussain took to his Insta story and congratulated them for adding another 'feather' to their caps.
"Mubarak ho Karachi chalanay walon (Congratulations to those running Karachi),” he wrote. “Another feather in the cap,” added the celebrity.
Meanwhile, Ilyas shared the report on her Insta story expressing her dismay. "This made me sad," wrote the model.
Aside from highlighting the lack and poor condition of vehicles along with routes, the report elaborated on the factors behind the city's deteriorating infrastructure.
"It serves about 42% of Karachi’s commuters, relying on decades-old, overcrowded buses that use the roof as a second deck for passengers at times," it pointed out. "Roads are filled with potholes, not all traffic signals are automated, and it’s common to see drivers running red lights," it added.
Reiterating how the former capital is still home to Pakistan’s main ports, it went on to relay how Karachi is also the regional headquarters for multi-national giants. This helps generate the city half of the nation’s tax revenue, funds of which are then distributed to other parts of the country.
The dysfunction of the city's transportation system, however, came under the limelight when this year's record breaking rainfalls flooded several parts of the city for more than a week. About 64 people died while 10,000 had to be rescued. The flooding left many trapped without electricity which remained suspended for over 60 hours in certain areas.
A few days later, mobile phone service and cash machines stopped working as well.
