Meghan Markle makes history by becoming the first 'Modern Royal' to vote in a US election

The actor had previously urged US citizens to vote in the election

Hollywood actor Meghan Markle made history by becoming the first modern Royal to vote in a US election, reported People. According to a source close to the matter, it is not yet known whether she voted early or locally near her Santa Barbara, California, home.

During an appearance on the ABC special last month, Markle had encouraged her fellow Americans to vote. "Every four years, we're told, 'This is the most important election of our lifetime.' But this one is. When we vote, our values are put into action, and our voices are heard," she said.

According to People, a close friend of the couple noted that both Markle and her husband had been watching the events leading up to the election closely.“They have taken a keen interest in this election and I’m sure they are eagerly awaiting the outcome," the friend said.

While the Suits actor is definitely the most famous part of the British monarchy to vote in a US election, she is not the only royal to be eligible for vote. According to a report published on Insider, Wallis Simpson was a US citizen who became the Duchess of Windsor by marrying the former King Edward VIII in 1937. Edward abdicated the throne to be with Simpson, though his wife was never fully accepted by the royal family.
