Taking a jibe at the incumbent government, Balochistan National Party chief Sardar Akhtar Jan Mengal on Monday said that it is meaningless to have power without any authority.
He criticised the treatment meted out to people of Balochistan in the past. “To this day, Balochistan has always been treated like a colony instead of a unit,” he said. "People do not take up arms out of passion but out of feeling of deprivation. They are forced to hide in the mountains due to atrocities inflicted upon them.”
Mengal questioned why talks cannot be held with people who speak about the rights of Balochistan when a peace agreement can be signed with the taliban.
"Balochistan National Party has never supported militancy. The issue of missing persons is pivotal without which the issue of Balochistan cannot be solved," he added.
Mengal further said that the Central Committee of BNP has approved the no-confidence motion against the government. "Now we will abide by whatever the PDM leadership decides," he expressed these views during an interview with a local media outlet.
He relayed how the problems of Balochistan date back to the past.
"The majority of those elected belong to Punjab. This grievance was present yesterday as well as today and if the same situation prevails then this grievance will continue in the future.”
