Suspect blames cousin for murder over property dispute

Police claimed to have arrested a young man for allegedly killing his brother for the sake of property.

The reports revealed that a trader Masmi Muhammad Owais, a resident of 13/11 L, a suburb village near Chichawatni Tehsil, has filed a case in which he stated that on July 17, 2020, he closed his grocery store in Ghaziabad Ada and was returning to his village in a jeep with his younger brother Masmi Muhammad Waqas Al Hassan.

As they were passing through the fields, three armed men riding a motorcycle approached from behind stopped the vehicle at gunpoint.

Owais said a man named Masmi Mudassar allegedly opened fire on Hassan and injured him.

The suspect later fled the scene.

Upon receiving the report of the murder, a police team reached the spot along with Saddar SHO Rana Asif Sarwar and collected all available evidence.

Owais blamed his cousin Mudassir and two of his unidentified accomplices for the murder.

Police registered a case against the accused on the complaint of Owais and launched an operation.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Owais killed his brother for property. Police registered a case against the alleged accused and arrested him. Cases of murder of relatives over property disputes were not uncommon across the province.

On June 16, four women were killed by their uncle over a dispute of inheritance in Naran Shumalian village in the outskirts of Khushab.

Accused Mohammed Amir, along with his accomplices, barged into his deceased brother Sher Muhammad Saidukhel’s house and opened indiscriminate fire on the victims, killing Bushara Bibi, 28, Shazia Bibi, 26, Sultana Bibi, 24, and Nasreen Bibi, 18 on the spot.

On January 16, three men were gunned down over a property dispute in Faisalabad.

On November 9 last year, at least five members of a family were killed when they were ambushed by a rival party over a minor property dispute in Batapur, Lahore.
