A local court sent on Monday three accused to jail on a 14-day judicial remand in a case pertaining to threatening a woman's family with an acid attack as retribution for refusing his marriage proposal.
The Central judicial magistrate was hearing the case at the Karachi City Court, where the police presented the accused, Waleed, Bilal and Saifullah. The investigation officer (IO) informed the court that the accused had threatened the family of a woman, whom Waleed wanted to marry, of murdering or throwing acid on the woman's face for refusing his proposal.
The court sent the accused on remand and directed the IO to present the challan after completing investigations.
Court remands cop
Meanwhile, the South judicial magistrate handed over an accused police official, Mehfooz, to the police for a one-day physical remand in a case pertaining to threatening a shopkeeper for refusing to give him free food in Kharadar.
The accused official was presented before the court during the hearing. The IO said that Mehfooz, who was deputed at the Kharadar police station, had abused and threatened the shopkeeper for refusing to give him food without payment, adding that he had shown the shopkeeper his official weapon as a warning.
Maintaining that they needed to interrogate the accused further, the IO moved the court to grant his physical remand. The court approved the request and handed over the accused, directing the IO to submit a progress report at the next hearing.
