The investigation officer (IO) of Sadiqabad police station has been suspended after a probe proved his involvement in framing a tailor in a fake drug possession case.

Rawalpindi City Police Officer (CPO) Ahsan Younus directed the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) SP to investigate the matter and submit a report within a week.

Sources said the Sadiqabad police had staged a drama to save IO Arsalan Fazil by producing a fake witness before the probe committee, formed on the orders of the CPO.

However, it later emerged that the witness, Hammad Arshad, had a criminal record and he has been charge-sheeted five times.

Sources the CPO ordered to suspend IO Fazil and directed the CIA to probe the matter within a week.
