SAPM for Climate Change calls for involving youth in climate activism

ISLAMABAD:

A large number of people turned out to take part in the Cycling for Green Pakistan rally held at the Rose and Jasmine Garden on Saturday.

Special Assistant to Prime Minister (SAPM) on Climate Change Malik Amin Aslam, joined the cyclists which also included women and children to push for climate action.

The cycling rally, organised by a local organisation of young students in support with the climate change ministry, was attended by a large number of youth and representatives of various governmental and non-governmental organisations including teachers and researchers.

Speaking to the media at the rally, Aslam said the government is well aware of the fact that engaging the youth in climate improving activities was vital to transform the country towards a low-carbon and climate resilient future.

He said that over 60 per cent of the country's population was below the age of 30 while 29 per cent was aged between 15 and 29 years.

"However, we cannot achieve sustainable efforts to mitigate the climate change impact through various initiatives as long as the youth bulge is not engaged in such activities," he added.

The SAPM said that various initiatives had been launched by the government as a part of the Prime Minister Imran Khan's vision for Clean and Green Pakistan (CGP) programme, wherein the youth were being actively engaged.
