Four capital residents die of Covid-19 in a day

Some four fatalities due to the coronavirus infection were reported in Islamabad on Saturday besides 140 new cases that surfaced in the capital territory on the same day.

The coronavirus is making headway again and the tally of new cases has remained over 100 over the past few days.

Islamabad District Health Office reported that four people succumbed to the coronavirus while 140 new cases, including 78 men and 62 women, contracted the virus. The number of active cases currently stands at 1,193.

The total number of cases so far recorded in the federal capital has reached 18,764 with new infections while 17,180 people have recovered from the viral infection. Some 205 people have died so far since the outbreak of the pandemic in the federal capital.

The neighbouring Rawalpindi city is also suffering from what is deemed as the second wave of coronavirus. The violations of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) have worsened the situation and currently, some 28 patients are under treatment in the Holy Family Hospital (HFH) including six on ventilators. Among these patients, 19 are those who have resulted back positive while test results of nine are still awaited.

Subsequently, smart sampling in schools is also underway by the health department.

Rawalpindi District Health Authority (DHA) Dr Sohail Ahmed Chaudhry warned that the threat of coronavirus second threat persisted.

Therefore, he emphasised that all precautionary measures must be followed to stem virus spread.

Dr Chaudhry said that efforts and precaution on an individual level were required to remain protected against the pandemic virus.

He said that the public health safety (PSH) squads were active across the district and they would take action against those found violating SOPs.

Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Capital Development Authority Affairs Ali Nawaz Awan on Saturday said that Islamabad police contributed very well to curb the spread of the coronavirus and its personnel worked hard to ensure effective lockdown as per policy of the government.

Addressing at an event organisd by Islamabad Police in collaboration with a local magazine, he said that Islamabad police ensured implementation on Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) during smart lockdown.

The force not only kept vigilance to ensure implementation on SOPs but also educated the citizens as how to protect themselves from coronavirus.

Ali Zaib of Aziz Zubaida Foundation, Director PR NEWS Muhammad Ashraf Awan and large number of citiznes attended the event especially held to hail the services of Islamabad police in checking coronavirus.

A special drama was staged in which police constable sacrificed his life in the line of duty on his marriage day.

Awan also distributed the shield among the police officers of Islamabad Police in recognition of their services during pandemic Covid-19.
