RAWALPINDI:

A two-member divisional bench of Lahore High Court (LHC) Rawalpindi Bench annulled the life sentence awarded to a suspect in a drug smuggling case.

The bench comprising Justice Shahid Abbasi and Justice Sadiq Khurram heard the case in which the suspect, Ghani Abdul Rehman, was awarded life imprisonment for smuggling over 500 kilogramme (kg) of drugs.

The petitioner’s counsel Syed Yasir Shah said that his client was arrested by the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) for smuggling drugs.

However, he maintained that there were no witnesses of the incident and pointed out the false and contradictory testimonies of the witnesses produced by the ANF.

The lawyer maintained that nobody could be awarded punishment based on false testimonies.
