To mark the World Polio Eradication Day, a walk was organised by the District Health Authority, which was led by Divisional Commissioner Ishrat Ali, Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Ali and MPA Firdous Rai.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Finance Afifa Shajia, City Assistant Commissioner Syed Ayub Bukhari, Health CEO Dr Mushtaq Sipra, DHO Dr Bilal Ahmed and District Coordinator Dr Aurangzeb, WHO representative Dr Mudassar, and members of civil society were present on the occasion in large numbers.
The walk started from District Council Chowk, passed through Parveen Shakir Complex and ended at the Red Crescent Hospital.
The participants of the walk held banners and placards inscribed with slogans vowing to end polio.
The divisional commissioner said on the occasion, “Polio-free Pakistan is our mission and complete eradication of infectious diseases like polio is one of the top priorities.” He maintained that all resources are being utilised for giving a healthy future to the children.
He maintained that in the light of WHO guidelines being implemented in the country, children can be saved from polio through timely vaccination, so parents should also do their part.
The DC appealed to the parents to vaccinate their children against polio and be a part of the government’s efforts.
