KARACHI:

The hearing of a plea to quash a murder case filed by Mohajir Qaumi Movement (MQM-Haqiqi) chief Afaq Ahmed was adjourned for the umpteenth time on Monday as the counsel for the complainant Shehzad Ahmed sought an adjournment.

The plea was fixed for hearing before Justice Imam Bux Baloch of the High Court of Sindh. He allowed the request and adjourned the hearing, directing the branch concerned to fix it according to the roster.

The criminal miscellaneous application seeks a court order to quash the murder case of a man named Atiq-ur Rahman of the rival Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM). If placed again before the same judge, he would be the fourth to hear the plea.

This is the last case against Afaq Ahmed. If his plea to quash the FIR is allowed, he could be released from prison. Afaq has also filed a bail application which will be heard on the same day, ie, August 11 as the prosecutor general has been put on notice.
