In a bid to control smog, the Punjab government has ordered the closure of brick kilns from November 7 until the end of the current year. It has also given the deadline to all brick kilns across the province to shift to environment-friendly zigzag technology. Both Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) have termed the installation of eco-friendly technology mandatory for all small and large brick kilns across Punjab by the end of 2020. After the passage of the deadline, the brick kilns operating on old technology would be sealed off. Meanwhile, the brick kilns across the province would remain shut from November 7 to December 31 to control smog. A notification in this regard has been issued.
