Pindi cops torture two youths

FIR registered against four Dolphin Force personnel

RAWALPINDI:

A four-member team of the motorcycle-mounted Dolphin Force police patrol has been booked for torturing two young men in Islamabad on Sunday.

The squad was far from its jurisdiction, however, the rogue cops brutalised the two cousins leaving one of them with a broken finger. The Rawalpindi policemen also arrested the boys in the Islamabad and took them to Rawalpindi where they were kept under illegal confinement for hours.

Hasan Qureshi, who is a resident of the Barakahu area in Islamabad, told the police that he was riding back home on his motorbike with his cousin Zubair Ahmed.

Four Dolphin Force personnel on two motorcycles stopped them near Rawal Dam on Murree Road.

After some questions, the complainant asserted that the personnel suddenly fired gunshots in the air and started beating both the cousins with the butts of guns, belts, and walkie-talkies they had with them. The complaint said that one of his fingers was fractured due to violent blows.

Then, the Dolphin Squad seized their cell phones and cash and handcuffed them. The cousins were taken to Sadiqbad police station located in Rawalpindi where they were put under illegal confinement in the lockup for hours.

Later at night, Qureshi’s father learnt about the incident after which he reached Sadiqabad police station with his friend. It was after the father’s intervention that both victims were released.

Later upon application of the father, the police registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the dolphin personnel but excluded the portion about illegal confinement.

Rawal Division SP Rai Mazhar said that the Islamabad police are probing into the case as the incident occurred there.

He maintained that the Rawalpindi police have a zero-tolerance policy against the assault on citizens, adding that stringent action would be taken against the Dolphin Force personnel if the assault on citizens was proved during the investigation.
