Experts assure of support for city’s mega projects

Master plans being prepared for 17 cities in Sindh, says chief secretary

Eminent architects and urban planners assured the Sindh government on Wednesday of their complete support in the implementation of metropolis' mega projects.

The assurance came during a meeting presided over by Sindh chief secretary Syed Mumtaz Ali Shah.

The meeting discussed various major projects launched in connection with Karachi's master planning, transport and heritage buildings. Sindh chief secretary said that the suggestions of experts, as well as civil society members, would be considered in this regard and the city would be beautified through collective efforts.

He appreciated the experts for extending their support and said that their suggestions would help the government in legislating for improving Karachi's infrastructure.

The secretary sought experts' suggestions for Karachi's master plan and instructed the planning department to present the plan at the next meeting. He also sought proposals for restoring heritage buildings in the metropolis.

He further stated that no illegal construction would be tolerated in the city.

Listing big projects underway in the port city, he said that government had been working on the Karachi Water and Sewerage Services Improvement Project, K-IV bulk water project, bus rapid transit schemes, Karachi Circular Railway and Malir Expressway project.

Besides, the chief secretary told the meeting, the Sindh government was preparing master plans for 17 cities in the province and aimed to complete the plans for Sukkur, Larkana and Islamkot by June, 2021.
