HYDERABAD:

The Sindh High Court Bar Association, Hyderabad, decried the registration of FIRs against mourners who participated in Chehlum processions of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) across Sindh. In a statement issued on Saturday, the association’s acting president, Farhad Ali Abro, lamented that a segment of society had been targeted through these cases. “The government has the responsibility of playing the role to strike a balance between religious communities rather than causing discrimination against a particular community,” he observed. Condemning the registration of the cases, he offered free legal aid to those nominated in the FIRs. The police had filed cases against thousands of mourners, claiming that they had carried out Chehlum processions in violation of a pandemic-related ban put in place by the provincial government, to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
