
The Pir Mahar Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University (PMAS-AAU) has established two new veterinary hospitals for animals ranging from camels to parakeets.
These government-run hospitals have facilities like X-ray and operation theatre for cattle including camels, cows, buffaloes and goats and pets like dogs, cats, pigeons and parrots, said PMAS-AAU official Dr Irfan. The two hospitals have been established in the rural areas of Charah and Kanth.
Presently, the PMASAAU campus boasts a fully equipped veterinary hospital providing medical consultancy and surgeries. Dr Irfan said the hospital at Kanth has been designated for big cattle including camels, buffaloes, cows, besides donkeys and horses. Dr Irfan is the incharge of the veterinary hospital at Kanth.
Speaking to The Express Tribune, he said that the animal healthcare facility will also serve as a teaching hospital. All animals will be diagnosed for Rs10 only, however, people will have to buy medicines from market. He further shared that small animals and birds will be treated at the Charah veterinary hospital.
Both of these hospitals will be opened and turned functional from October 12. Dr Irfan said that ultrasound and x-ray machines, medical and surgical equipment have been procured for the treatment of the cattle.
The facilities will be fully equipped for surgeries of patients from canaries to camels, Dr Irfan said. Presently, the Faculty of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, PMAS-AAU offers courses in the disciplines of: veterinary medicine, surgery, radiology, and theriogenology. Department also has facility to house the experimental animals for imparting practical training to the students.
