ISLAMABAD:

The protest of federal government employees ended peacefully on assurances by the authorities to consider their demand for pay increase commensurate to the inflation.

Hundreds of employees of the federal government secretariats from across the country marched towards the Prime Minister House for increment in their salaries demanding revision of salaries and pensions. Similar protests were held at federal secretariats in provinces too.

The National Assembly Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri and State Minister Ali Muhammad Khan also joined the sit-in to show solidarity with the protestors.

Not to be left behind, Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) leader Khwaja Asif also participated in the sit-in and assured them that his party was standing with the secretariat employees.

Moreover, JUI-F leader Maulana Ghafoor Haideri said that increment in salaries was the right of the secretariat employees and backed their other demands too.

The leader of All Government Employees Grand Alliance Islamuddin said that the government had given them in black and white to fulfil all their demands including an assurance that there would be no reduction in retirement age and no termination of the pension system.
