40 Pakhtunkhwa schools upgraded

Schools to be handed over to education department by December this year

PESHAWAR:

The provincial government has upgraded as many as 40 schools in the first phase of its initiative to revamp 54 schools.

A total of 128 schools would be upgraded at a cost of Rs4.5 billion under the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Schools Construction and Rehabilitation Programme (K-PSCRP) of the Elementary and Secondary Education Department (ESED).

The schools which have been upgraded would be handed over the education department by December this year.

This was disclosed during a meeting of the steering committee of the K-PSCRP on Tuesday. K-P Additional Chief Secretary Shakil Qadir Khan presided over the meeting.

The Communication and Works, Planning and Development and ESED officials attended the meeting.

The meeting was informed that under the K-PSCRP, work on upgrading schools in different districts was underway. It was told that in the first 54 schools were renovated while 74 schools would be provided with all facilities in the second phase of the programme.

The meeting was further told that work on the 74 primary, high and higher secondary schools has already begun which would be completed by March next year.
