Passerby killed in Orangi Town robbery

Suspects take off with Rs3.5m, looted from potato chips distributors at gunpoint

A man was killed during a robbery in Orangi Town on Monday. The robbers reportedly looted two potato chips distributors at gunpoint and took off with Rs3.5 million. The perpetrators opened fire as they escaped, injuring a pedestrian passing by.

The injured, identified as Tariq Islam, 28, was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Speaking to The Express Tribune, potato chips distributors Muhammad Ali and Syed Muhammad Asim said that they were leaving their office in Benazir Colony to deposit an amount of Rs3.5m at the bank as per their routine.

They had left on a motorcycle and were going to shift to a car parked at some distance before driving to the bank. However, they were intercepted by robbers before they could reach the car, they narrated.

After being robbed, Ali and Asim said they got to the car and chased the robbers but the latter opened fire, wounding Islam.

The deceased's family arrived at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and demanded justice.

The Pakistan Bazaar police have launched an investigation into the matter. A spent bullet shell from a 30bore pistol was found at the crime scene, said the police.
