HYDERABAD:

The Larkana police on Monday arrested two workers of the Pakistan Peoples Party and booked three for allegedly beating and humiliating a policeman inside a police station.

The SHO of Waleed police station, where the incident took on Sunday, was also suspended for allowing the violation of the law inside a police station.

Senior police officials swung into action after ASI Asghar Mugheri shared a video of himself in his torn uniform on social media. Larkana DIG Irfan Baloch took notice of the incident, ordering action against the culprits.

"I arrested two persons riding a motorcycle carrying liquor bottles and took them to the police station. Influential persons came there and beat and abused me in front of the SHO," Mugheri claimed in the video. "The SHO remained silent and later took their side."

He went on to blame Larkana SSP Masood Bangash, saying that when the matter was reported to him, Bangash only gave a transfer order instead of providing justice.

Mugheri deplored that incidents of public humiliation of his colleagues had become a frequent occurrence in the district, appealing to the Chief Justice of Pakistan to take notice of this. "If I don't get justice, I will set myself on fire," he warned.

Bangash, meanwhile, tasked City ASP Rizwan Tariq with the inquiry, while denying that Mugheri had been transferred.

The Waleed police have booked Zulfiqar Jakhrani and two unidentified persons in the FIR.

Jakhrani secured interim bail from a civil judge and judicial magistrate on Monday, accusing Mugheri snatching Rs20,000 from the two arrested men. "He [the ASI] tore his clothes in his home," he claimed.
