Punjab Minister for Human Rights and Minorities Affairs (HR&MA) Ejaz Alam Augustine has claimed that province was “undoubtedly the first province to launch the Human Rights Policy 2018” during the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-led government’s tenure.
He expressed these views while presiding over a meeting at his office on Friday. HR&MA Secretary Nadeemur Rehman, Director Muhammad Yousaf and other officers concerned were also present on the occasion. The provincial minister said that committees of Human Rights Task Force had rendered excellent services in regards to the Covid-19 situation, adding that collective efforts were needed to ensure the protection of human rights throughout Punjab.
Briefing the HR&MA minister on the two-year performance of the department, the secretary stated that in the last two years, 55,000 applications had been received at the Citizen Portal of Prime Minister which was sent to officers of departments concerned.
The director informed the meeting that under the human rights policy, the rights of children, women, minorities, differently-abled persons and senior citizens were being ensured. Special consultation process on the proposed legislation was underway.”
