ISLAMABAD:

An accountability court in Islamabad on Tuesday granted time to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) till October 20 to implement the summon notices issued to the co-accused staying abroad in the liquefied natural gas (LNG) corruption case.

Former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and his son Abdullah Khaqan Abbasi appeared before AC-II Judge Azam Khan hearing the LNG case.

At the outset of the hearing, the NAB prosecutor requested to the court for three-week time to serve the summons to the accused living abroad.

Barrister Zafarullah, counsel for Shahid Khaqan Abbasi also prayed the court to give more time to NAB for this purpose.

The court warned that it would issue arrest warrants against the accused on the next hearing if they continued to avoid appearing in the case.

The NAB prosecutor informed the court that notices were issued to the addresses of the companies owned by the accused persons but no response was received from the Foreign Office about its implementation.

The court observed that the indictment of the accused couldn't be done until the implementation report of the summon notices.

The trial court also ordered NAB to share the copies of the reference with the accused persons. After that, the court adjourned the hearing till October 20. (With input from APP)
