RAWALPINDI:

Services at the emergency department of the Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH) remained suspended for two hours on Sunday after the family of a patient quarrelled with doctors and other medical staff over delays in providing treatment.

A patient had been brought to the emergency ward of the hospital on Sunday. However, the family of the patient felt that staff was not providing them with the attention they needed and started arguing. The quarrel soon blew up into an altercation with the patient’s attendants allegedly threatening to kill doctors.

Thereafter all medical staff in the ward stopped working, the family were pushed out and the gates of the ward were sealed.

Members of the Young Doctors Association (YDA) then raised the matter with the BBH Medical Superintendent (MS).

YDA President Dr Hafiz Muhammad Bilal said that a policeman was also suspended for negligence in performing his duty. He added that a case was being registered against the patient’s family. Medical practitioners resumed working after assurance of security by the BBH MS.
