HYDERABAD:

Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO) has decided to end load-shedding of all feeders in areas where 80 per cent of bills are recovered regularly, claimed the utility's CEO Muhammad Yaqoob Shaikh.

"HESCO management is making efforts to improve performance and facilitate customers by providing them uninterrupted power supply and unearthing illegal connections," he stated while addressing the members of the Hyderabad Chamber of Small Traders and Small Industry on Saturday.

Besides, he said, directives had been issued to executive engineers and sub-divisional officers to stop issuing detection bills to customers regularly paying utility bills.

"Corrupt practices are being discouraged and if any HESCO employee demands illegal gratification for repairing power transformers, it should be brought to my knowledge so that action can be initiated against them," he maintained.

Admitting to a shortage of technical staff in HESCO, Shaikh assured that the matter would soon be resolved.

He further claimed the HESCO administration had initiated action against employees who were negligent about their duties, adding that many had been suspended and would be punished after inquiries were completed against them.

Moreover, he stated that the company would soon receive 25 new power transformers and four cranes, which would help it cope with technical faults.
