The manager of a private cigarette manufacturing company was killed, while his driver was injured as robbers looted Rs1.1 million from them near Korangi Crossing on Wednesday.
Korangi SSP Faisal Abdullah Chachar stated that the manager, Umair, was going with his driver Kamran from Chamra Chowrangi to Ibrahim Hyderi to deposit cash in a private bank, but four robbers, riding two motorcycles, intercepted them at Korangi Crossing. They tried to steal the money at gunpoint, but the driver accelerated the car in an attempt to escape, upon which the robbers opened fire at them, he added.
Both men were injured and were being shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, but Umair succumbed to his wounds on the way to the hospital.
According to SSP Chachar, the robbers appeared to have prior information about the money being transported by Umair and were waiting for his vehicle at Korangi Crossing.
The police have collected bullet shells and CCTV footage from the scene. Further investigation has been launched into the incident.
