PESHAWAR:

A bus running in the dedicated corridor of the Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) service caught fire in Peshawar. All passengers on board were immediately evacuated and no casualties were reported.

Members of Rescue 1122 later told the media that they received a call about a fire that erupted on a BRT bus. They rushed to the Gulbahar station of the BRT, evacuated passengers and extinguished the fire.

The fire had erupted at the rear end of the bus, in an area where the batteries of the hybrid buses are stored.

However, the rescue official said that the true cause of the blaze can only be ascertained after a detailed investigation and ascribing any reason at the moment will be premature.

Meanwhile, the rescue workers completed the cool-down process after the fire to ensure it had been completely put out. This is the third BRT bus to catch fire since the service commenced on August 13. The project had cost Rs69 billion and took nearly three years to build.
