A team of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Operational Safety Audit has expressed satisfaction on the interim report of the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), noting improvements in the national carrier’s operation safety measures compared with the previous audit report of 2018.
The IATA team paid a five-day visit to Pakistan to scrutinise safety parameters 1072 of the national carrier. According to the interim audit report, the national carrier’s administration has completed 98.5 per cent parameters, whereas, the remaining part was due to be addressed.
The IATA auditors scrutinised all departments of the airline, including flight operation, passenger services, safety, security and engineering, for measuring the qualitative safety measures for travellers and aircraft.
The audit after every two years is essential for the airlines to scrutinise the safety standards for the commercial aviation activities under the IATA. After a ban on flight operations by the European Union, it is crucial for the PIA to clear the audit.
The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) suspended the PIA flight operations to and from Europe in June over safety concerns. Following the closure of the flights to Europe, the PIA administration had decided to call back its employees deputed in Europe.
