As Britney Spears’ conservatorship battle continues, E! News has reported that the star wants to keep details about it completely open.
The news outlet obtained official documents on September 3, according to which, her lawyer explicitly stated that Britney doesn't want information on her conservatorship to be sealed. The documents also reveal the pop star's relationship with her father, Jamie Spears, and her followers.
According to the documents, “Britney strongly believes it is consistent not only with her personal best interests but also with good public policy generally that the decision to appoint a new conservator of her estate to be made in as open and transparent a manner as possible.”
They also say that the move to keep them sealed is being pushed by her father. “The sealing motion is supposedly being brought by her father to 'protect' Britney's interests, but she is adamantly opposed to it.”
“Whatever merits his strategy might have had years ago, when Britney was trying to restart her career, at this point in her life, when she is trying to regain some measure of personal autonomy, Britney welcomes and appreciates the informed support of her many fans,” the documents further mention.
Earlier, Jamie had addressed the #FreeBritney movement, labeling it as a ‘joke’ in an interview with Page Six. “All these conspiracy theorists don't know anything. The world doesn’t have a clue," he had said.
The official documents also shed light on this comment of his. “Britney's conservatorship has attracted an unprecedented level of scrutiny from mainstream media and social media alike,” they read. “Far from being a conspiracy theory or a 'joke' as James reportedly told the media, in large part, this scrutiny is a reasonable and even predictable result of James' aggressive use of the sealing procedure over the years to minimise the amount of meaningful information made available to the public,” they read further.
Britney’s attorney further states in the documents that, “Transparency is an essential component in order for this court to earn and retain the public's confidence with respect to protective proceedings like this one. In this case, it is not an exaggeration to say that the whole world is watching.”
Earlier this week, the I’m A Slave For You singer reportedly requested that Bessemer Trust Company be appointed conservator of her estate in official court documents. Her mother Lynne has also nominated the same company.
