RAWALPINDI:

As many as two people, who stole metal parts from the railway infrastructure, were caught red-handed by the Railway Police near a track in Gujjar Khan on Thursday.

Railway police officials said that the suspects were caught loosening segments of track and clip bolts and recovered as many as 20 bolts from the thieves.

The officials said that the thieves sell these in the market for a profit while endangering railway services, adding that the arrests had helped avert a major train accident.

During questioning, the suspects allegedly confessed committing such robberies in the past as well, officials claimed, adding that they were now probing their possible link with a gang of metal thieves.

The Railway Police registered cases against both suspects.

The police officials said that they will take action to arrest other members of the gang as well.

A couple of weeks ago, a bogey had run off the tracks near the Rawalpindi train station.
