Clifton Cantonment Board lodges FIR against protesters

CBC accuses them of vandalism, threatening CBC staff, hindering relief efforts

KARACHI:

The Darakhshan police registered a case on Wednesday against 22 named and other unidentified protesters who had gathered outside the Clifton Cantonment Board (CBC) on Monday.

The FIR, lodged on behalf of the office security supervisor, Munawar Hussain, accuses the nominated protesters of vandalism, scuffling with the police and issuing threats to CBC officials.

Hussain stated in the FIR that he was on duty on Monday when around 50 residents from Defence Housing Authority and Clifton gathered at the office to protest against the lack of drainage in the aftermath of rain. Meanwhile, he added, around 35 'violent' individuals arrived and clashed with the guards, while shouting abusive slogans against the CBC.

He further alleged that these men entered the office premises by force, broke glass and pots, interfered in official work and harassed the officials, staying there for eight hours as they hindered the CBC's relief efforts.

Moreover, the FIR states that the accused also tried to clash with police officials deputed outside, but fled when the policemen called for back-up.

Hussain sought legal action against those nominated in the FIR, which is registered under sections 353, 148, 147, 506 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
