Prime Minister Imran Khan wants to curb prices of basic food items in the best interest of the general public, said Minister for National Food Security and Research Syed Fakhar Imam. Speaking during a press conference on Wednesday, he reaffirmed that government was determined to ensure the provision of wheat in the country. “Government has decided to import wheat which would help stabilise the price of flour,” he stressed. “We are involved in comprehensive planning with regard to wheat.” The minister added that first vessel carrying 60,804 tons reached port on Wednesday while another shipment of 65,000 tons of wheat was expected to arrive in the country on August 28. Imam emphasised that special attention was being paid to the agriculture sector of the country. Citing figures, he said the availability of wheat was reported at 26.06 million metric tons (MMT) compared to the national consumption of 27.47 MMT.
