Two remanded in doctor’s suicide case

Seminary teachers accused of beating children released on bail

KARACHI:

A local court handed over on Monday the two accused in a female doctor's suicide case to the police for a two-day physical remand. The two men had allegedly assisted the deceased in obtaining the weapon.

The South judicial magistrate was hearing the case at Karachi City Court, where the accused, Saad Siddiqui and Tabish Qureshi, were presented before the court.

The investigation officer informed the court that the gun with which the deceased shot herself was registered in Siddiqui's name, while Qureshi, a friend of hers, gave it to her on her request, along with the bullets.

The court handed over the accused to the police for a two-day physical remand.

The doctor had shot herself in the head at her residence in Gizri on August 18. Her family called the Madadgar-15 police and she was rushed to the hospital in an injured condition, but later succumbed to her wounds.

Seminary teachers given bail

Separately, the West judicial magistrate accepted the bail plea of two seminary teachers accused of beating their minor students at seminaries in Mominabad.

Mominabad Police presented the accused, Qari Fareed and Qari Ali Syed before the court.

The court accepted their bail pleas against a surety of Rs10,000 each.

The accused had been arrested after videos of them beating a boy and a girl went viral on social media.
