‘All CMs must introduce PFC awards’

Rawalpindi-Islamabad Union of Journalist urges media practitioners not to become a tool in the hands of extremists

The chief ministers of all provinces must introduce their respective finance commission awards to fulfil the needs of people at the local level, while parliamentarians and media must play a critical role in countering violent extremism and to build peace in society.

This was stated by the Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry during a two-day “Training Workshop of Parliamentary Reporters of Punjab Assembly on Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) Laws”. The workshop had been organised by the Sustainable Social Development Organization (SSDO).

Chaudhry, who previously held the information portfolio in the federal cabinet, said that all institutions need to work to strengthen the narrative for peace and cohesion.

Punjab Assembly Parliamentary Affairs and Research Director General Inayatullah Lak spoke about the role of standing committees in the effective implementation of laws and how media can contribute to improving legislative oversight.
