30,000 youth apply for cash assistance

PM for making youth stakeholders in national economy

ISLAMABAD:

Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that in order to uplift the country's economy, youth needed to be included as stakeholders in the development process.

The prime minister said this while meeting Special Assistant for Youth Affairs Usman Dar and Finance Adviser Hafeez Sheikh where he was also briefed on the latest figures of the "Kamyab Naujawan Program".

In addition, the meeting also discussed ways to expedite distribution of money among youth under the programme.

In a few days, more than 30,000 young people have applied for the cash assistance. The Prime Minister was informed in the briefing that 21 banks would complete the disbursement process for the convenience of the youth. So far, an amount of Rs1 billion has been distributed among the youth, while applications for another Rs53 billion have been received.

On the occasion, the PM said the distribution of funds should be completed in a more expeditious and transparent manner. He said the programme is significant to eliminate the negative effects of the coronavirus ordeal on the country's economy.

He said the youth needed to be included as stakeholders to uplift the country's economy.

Vowing to provide facilities to youth, the prime minister said that there should be no compromise on transparency and merit at any level.

PM Imran also decided to hold a monthly briefing on the progress of the programme and directed Special Assistant Usman Dar to submit a review report every month. The prime minister expressed satisfaction over the progress made so far in the programme.
