Chitral to host National Chess Championship

Tournament features 52 players from across Pakistan

For the first time, Chitral district is hosting the National Chess Championship with 52 national chess players taking part in it.

The Chitral Chess Club and Swabi Chess Club have jointly organised the National Open Chess Championship with the support of K-P Directorate of Sports.

The championship will have nine rounds and will be played under the Swiss Chess System. The tournament features 52 players from across the country who have played internationally. Four rounds of this championship have so far been completed on the first day while five more rounds will be completed till the closing ceremonies.

Chitral District Sports Officer Akhunzada Abdul Rahmat said that the K-P Directorate of Sports has assured for support for promotion of all kind of games in the district. Azeemuddin, a local player, who will participate in the tournament, says he has been playing chess for the past 55 years. He added his wife and children are also chess players.
