Monsoon plantation drive kicks off as Tiger Force Day observed

Residents, activists, government and diplomats in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi on Sunday came together to launch tree plantation drives as part of the national campaign.

Apart from government officials launching several drives across the city in their departments and public parks, the diplomatic community also participated in the green efforts against climate change.

Envoys from different countries planted saplings at their respective missions and shared images on social media.

Joined by their staff, the diplomats resolved to make collaborative efforts against climate change challenges and global warming.

Chinese Ambassador Yao Jing planted a tree at his embassy, noting that they have planted as many as 500 trees in their compound over the past two years.

“Green Embassy, Green Pakistan," the Chinese Embassy tweeted.

Canadian High Commissioner Wendy Gilmour planted traditional Canadian trees including maple and cassia nadosa trees.

Sri Lankan High Commissioner Vice Admiral Mohan Wijewickrama along with other officials also planted saplings at the high commission in line with the prime minister's initiative. Similarly, Azerbaijan's Ambassador Ali Alizada also shared images of planting saplings

The ambassadors of Yemen and Iraq along with the embassy staffers planted saplings at their respective embassies.

"Always a part of 10 Billion Tree Tsunami campaign," said Turkish Ambassador Mustafa Yurdakul and shared an image of planting a sapling.

25,000 saplings in a day

In Rawalpindi, the authorities attempted to plant 25,000 saplings in a single day.

Rawalpindi Deputy Commissioner (DC) Anwarul Haq, while planting a sapling, urged the public to cooperate with the government in making the city clean and green.

With the event also held in consonance with the Tiger Force Day, Haq said that the participation of students and volunteers prove their resolve to make the city clean and green. Haq added that they have established a system to take care of the saplings which are planted.
